What Are Catastrophic Health Plans?

These plans are designed for people who want basic coverage at the lowest possible monthly cost.
Key Features

- High deductibles: You pay thousands out-of-pocket before most services are covered
- Essential health benefits: Covers the same 10 essential benefits as other ACA plans
- Preventive care: Certain services are at no cost even before you meet the deductible
- Primary care visits: Includes 3 primary care visits per year before the deductible applies
Limitations
Section titled “Limitations”Catastrophic plans are not for everyone:
- Eligibility: Only available if you’re under 30 or qualify for a hardship exemption
- No subsidies: Premium tax credits and cost-sharing reductions do not apply
- High out-of-pocket risk: Deductibles are often more than $9,000, meaning most routine care is paid out of pocket
